A. The SFRP is a new model in cooperative forestry research that builds on the strengths of existing cooperative research programs by reaching across organizational boundaries to attract support from broader segments of the forestry community.
A. SFRP's mission is to foster collaborative relationships that provide new and revised research knowledge that will enable the southeast to remain competitive in the global forestry market while enhancing the forest landscape and assuring that the forest resources are sustained indefinitely.
A. The SFRP will operate through a paid director and broad-based volunteer committees. The committees will set SFRP research priorities and subsequently appoint writing teams to develop research proposals in response to the identified priorities.
Q. What is the value of a Membership in the SFRP?
A. A membership in the SFRP allows groups and individuals to help identify and establish forest resources research needs and opportunities at the regional/landscape scale. Moreover, a membership allows access to public and private research funds that support high priority research needs.
Q. What outputs are available to members and unavailable to non-members?
A. Research outputs will be immediately available to member groups and individuals. For non-members output availability will track behind the conventional process of peer reviewed journal articles and other forms of technology transfer.
A. The SFRP will coordinate research by attracting funding, private and public, and using those funds to support research that furthers the mission of the SFRP. The region faces complex issues that cross property lines and political boundaries. These issues are beyond the scope of any one organization and require the focused attention of a team of scientists with diverse backgrounds and capabilities.
